There’s a new way for people of all ages to enjoy a walk through Osoyoos’ Gyro Park.
“Story Walk” boards have been installed from the parking lot to the town’s sailing club, providing a unique outdoor reading experience across the park’s trail.
An author from Boulder, Colo. is responsible for writing the story displayed at the park, Max Goes to the Space Station.
“It was a story that we received permission to use and was one that all ages could get something out of due to the science component to it,” said Sarah Dynneson, a program supervisor at the Town of Osoyoos.
Though the content of the story doesn’t have a connection to the town’s history, the hope is that future unveilings of other written works will celebrate the South Okanagan’s history and culture.
“There are three stories in the series so we are planning on presenting another one from the series later this summer,” Dynneson added.
“In the future, we would love to use stories from local authors and from the Osoyoos Indian Band.”
In collaboration with the Osoyoos Literacy Table, the new project encourages “children to practice reading in a non-traditional way,” the town said.
