NeighbourLink Summerland will hold its annual NeighbourLink Week events later this month, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the community service organization will hold its dinner and auction online.

The organization is made up of volunteers from churches in the community. It links individuals with needs to community resources.

Mirjana Komljenovic of NeighbourLink Summerland said the annual fundraiser will be held Thursday, May 27, with a Zoom dinner and a fundraising auction on the trellis.net platform.

The cost of the dinner is $35 and meal kits will be provided by The Breakfast Club catering service. Moving Lines, a Summerland-based duo, will provide musical entertainment.

Komljenovic said the pandemic has affected how NeighbourLink provides services to the community. Because some of the in-person services could not continue, the organization has worked to keep in touch with those in need.

“Our volunteers have been calling people to see how they are doing,” she said.

In the past, NeighbourLink held Tuesday soup social events and organized the Christmas match-up, connecting those who were alone during the festive season with families interested in hosting guests.

Today, she said the organization is serving as a telephone switchboard for the community, providing contact and connections with people.

Full details of the fundraiser are available online at neighbourlinksummerland.org.
