Six training conferences taking place over the next several months will bring more than 15,000 firefighters to Penticton.

The city is hosting events on fire prevention and technology, starting the week of April 4.

Some of the conferences will involve firefighters taking part in hands-on training outdoors, according to the city.

Residents should not be alarmed, it added, as an influx of emergency personnel from across B.C. and beyond travel to Penticton for the events.

The city has hosted similar conferences over the past several years, as fire service members gather and learn how to operate effectively and safely ahead of wildfire seasons.

This year's events:

• Fire Prevention Officers’ Association of BC: April 4 to 9

• Wildfire Resiliency & Training Summit: April 12 to 16

• BC Fire Training Officers Association: May 10 to 15

• First Nations Emergency Services Society of BC: June 5 to 8

• Fire Expo & Fire Chiefs Association of BC Conference: June 8 to 12

• Building Resilient Communities Conference: Nov. 24 to 28
