A Summerland woman has been recognized for her efforts to increase the membership of the Kin Club of the South Okanagan.
Heather Martin received a life membership in the Kin Club of the South Okanagan.
A longtime member of the Penticton Kinettes, Martin worked to merge that club and the Kinsmen Club of Penticton in 2016 as both clubs had been affected by declining membership numbers.
The Kinsmen Club had folded in 2014 and the Kinettes were down to just three members.

Today, while the numbers are still low with 10 members, the club is much more vibrant than in the past.
“We’re still a small club, but it’s enough people that we can do events,” she said.
The club, which has members from Penticton and south, holds several special events and fundraisers through the year.
The biggest is the Rubber Duck Drop, held annually, which raises roughly $15,000 a year.
Other events include pie sales at the Endless Summer Show and Shine in Summerland and a golf tournament which is planned for the fall.
Kin Canada works to support those with cystic fibrosis and the South Okanagan club is supporting a local family coping with this disease.
The life membership is given to someone who has been a member of Kin clubs for at least 10 years.
Martin has been active for many years and has held every position including Deputy Governor of the Southern Interior Zone.
