A volunteer-based organization in Penticton recently got a $2,000 boost thanks to a local meat draw organized by Cannery Brewing.

A total of $2,158 was donated to Penticton Soupateria after Cannery partnered with a number of businesses in organizing the “Not Your Average Meat Draw.”

Tony’s Meats & Deli Penticton, T-Bones Fresh Meat Market, Doug’s Homestead, Poplar Grove Cheese, Upper Bench Estate Winery, Buy the Sea Fresh Seafood Market, Pulse Kitchen and Gratify were among the Penticton-based establishments to participate in what Cannery Brewing described as a “very successful” fundraising event.

The recipients of the donation have served nutritious meals to community members in need since 2003.

Dependant on over 125 volunteers, Penticton Soupateria dished out 43,000 hot meals in 2015 alone.

The charitable organization serves food to those who may be homeless or face the challenges of unemployment.

“Anyone in need may come to be fed with no personal questions asked,” it states on the organization’s website.

After the conclusion of the fundraiser, Cannery Brewing issued a reminder stating that Penticton Soupateria is in need of more volunteers.

The non-profit organization is located at 150 Orchard Avenue.
