Keremeos suffers loss of service organization

Keremeos can add one of its sevice groups to the national statistics indicating volunteerism on the decline.

The Keremeos Lions Club held their last meeting on Thursday, March 10 as a critical shortage of members left the service club with insufficient numbers from which to do their community work.

“We were down to 13 members, “ explained Secretary - Treasurer Tracy Norton. “We just didn’t  have enough members to carry out fundraising activities.”

As of May 6, the Lions Club would have been an important part of the Keremeos volunteer community for 39 years.

“It was important for us to let the community know as soon as possible, as we were scheduled to run the pancake breakfast for Sim Country on July 1, as well as the breakfast and lunch for Kars Under the “K” event,” said Norton.

“The Lions Club did a great job for us and they will be missed,” said Kars Under the “K” Chair Marcel Morin.  “We are now looking at finding another local club or a combination of clubs to do the Kars event. In the worst case scenario, we may have to get out of town help,” he added.
