This year Loaaia Starrett’s birthday was nothing short of memorable.
Despite not being able to invite family and friends over, the now six-year-old received birthday greetings in the form of honks from nearly every car that passed by her Keremeos home Friday afternoon.
A sign she held reading ‘honk, it’s my sixth birthday’ prompted responses by many drivers. Some found out about Starrett’s birthday via social media, others, by chance.
A surprise parade by the Kermemos RCMP, Ambulance and Fire Department topped off the celebrations.
“It’s awesome man, with everything going on, not being able to have a full out birthday party,” said father, Aaron Starrett.
Thinking back, Aaron recalled how special birthdays were in his early years.
“We remember how our birthday’s were, you know, we had tons of friends and family around… it’s just good to see the community come out,” he said.
“I really enjoyed that, and if I enjoyed it, she enjoyed it,” said Aaron.
