Dedicated volunteers celebrated Legion week in Keremeos with a week-long barbecue.

“It’s to let the community know that we are here and to support us,” said Garry Villon, president of Keremeos Legion.

The barbecue kicked off June 24 and runs until June 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students at Similkameen Elementary and Secondary School helped out by flipping burgers for a day.

“It’s all the volunteers that do the work. I just stand here just stand here and make sure they do it,” Villon joked. “I’ll tell you, if it wasn’t for our volunteers we’d be in trouble.”

As part of Legion Week, the Legion held a first responders and volunteer dinner on June 26 which celebrated all the great work that first responders and volunteers do for the community.
