Father’s Day is almost here and there is a lot going on in the South Okanagan for those hoping to make the most out of the weekend.
Kelowna comedian Zawer Sulaiman kicks off the action at Penticton’s Dream Cafe for what’s promised to be a night full of laughs. Along with previously appearing at the Kelowna Comedy Festival, Friday night’s venue is calling Sulaiman “the most unique comic you’ll ever see.”
Tickets for the show are listed for $15. Doors open at 7 p.m. on June 17, with Sulaiman scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m.

The Summerland Horseshoe Club is hosting a tournament for the first time since 2019 on Saturday morning at the district’s Memorial Park.
Horseshoe competitors will begin playing at 9 a.m.

It’s picnic time in downtown Penticton on Saturday afternoon when the city hosts its second annual pop-up event from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“Pop-up Picnic-ton” returns this weekend at the 500-block of Main Street with yard games and live music.
The city’s temporary “street park” will feature lots of spaces for people to sit and eat.
The event is part of the city’s “Love Local” initiative, a campaign that aims to promote local shopping and eating.

Keremeos’ new fully-accessible disc golf course is expected to officially open sometime after 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The course, located in Pine Park, will feature nine holes and even be open to people who have limited mobility.
Community members can hit the course for a game as soon as the baskets are installed into the concrete holders on June 18.

The Penticton Speedway is hosting the always intense “Hit-to-Pass” race on Saturday night, with spectator gates opening at 6 p.m.
Along with the collision-filled race, late models and street stocks will appear on the track for some regular-season action as well.
The event is the speedway’s last until July 16.
Addiction recovery centre Discovery House is hosting its annual Father’s Day event at Skaha Lake Park on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Road hockey, a bouncy castle and a dunk tank headline the activities.
Proceeds from the free or by-donation event will help Discovery House continue to subsidize long-term, live-in and abstinence-based recovery services.
The centre’s executive director will take a plunge into the dunk tank with the hopes of raising at least $10,000 in pledges.
