The South Okanagan Women In Need Society is looking to build 50 backpacks and 150 holiday hampers this year. (SOWINS)

The South Okanagan Women In Need Society is looking for help from the community to build 50 backpacks and 150 holiday hampers.

SOWINS is asking for donations and sponsors with their Share the Spirit campaign.

There are multiple ways to support the campaign and SOWINS.

Donations to SOWINS are welcome and go to support single women, youth, local families and SOWINS programs. Receipts are available for donations over $25, and donations can be made online at www.sowins.com.

This year, SOWINS is seeking to put together 150 holiday hampers for those in need, and for that they need sponsors. A single sponsorship of roughly $250 provides a single woman with a full hamper of grocery gift cards, gifts and items for any other needs of the recipient. A family hamper can be expected to cost more, and while SOWINS encourages sponsors to shop and put together the hamper themselves, they will also be accepting donations of funds to allow volunteers to do the shopping.

If you can’t sponsor an entire hamper, join with friends or colleagues on one, you can still contact SOWINS who can connect you with others who are interested in sharing the creation of a family hamper.

Hampers will be dropped off on Dec. 15

SOWINS has prepared a list of items, which can be dropped off unwapped and will be used to help create hampers. They are also looking for gift certificates for local stores or services. The full list can be found at www.sowins.com/sharethespirit

This year, SOWINS has set a goal of 50 backpacks, which go to help women, youth and children who haven’t been able to find housing.
