From blind-drink challenges to an action-packed beer run, the fourth annual Penticton Beer Week is promised to be the best one yet.

The Peach City is home to eight breweries, something that couldn’t be said one year ago. And today, the city’s fast-growing, vibrant craft brew scene even has its own name — Penticton Beer Blocks.

After a pair of COVID-riddled years, the annual beer week returns with a handful of community events from Oct. 14 to 22, all in the name of “doing good.” Penticton mayor John Vassilaki recently met with representatives from all the local breweries to officially make the week a city-recognized celebration.

Eight breweries teamed up this year to create a brand-new drink for the occasion, Do Good. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Dragonfly Pond Society, a Penticton-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting families with children aged birth to 18 years who experience developmental or physical challenges.

The beer will be unveiled on Oct. 14 and be available for purchase at Penticton’s breweries, along with at select local restaurants and liquor stores across B.C.

Trying out the new brew, however, isn’t even half the fun. Organizers have planned events all week at different venues across the city, starting with the Penticton Beer Run. Covering 10 breweries and local eateries, this 10-kilometre walk/run along the KVR Trail and into the city’s downtown core takes place on Saturday, Oct. 15. Costumes mandatory!

Penticton Beer Week 2022 will also include:

• Stouts and Goats (Goat petting, pumpkin carving and family-friendly fun)- Bad Tattoo, Oct. 16 at 12 p.m.

• Hoppiness (Celebration of local India Pale Ale)- Slackwater, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.

• Brew Who? (Blind beer challenge)- Barley Mill, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m.

• Craft Beer and Bacon Happy Hour- Barley Mill, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.

• Burger Shack and Beers- Cannery Brewing, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.

• Freida Whales (Drag and Burlesque shows)- Slackwater, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Beer Week is celebrated officially with a city-wide “block party” and will feature live music, headlined by White Rock’s Daniel Wesley on Oct. 15 and a Rage Against Machine Tribute band on Oct. 21, both hosted by Slackwater.
