The two victims of the fatal car crash that was found in the Similkameen River were lifelong Hedley residents.

Devon Fairbrother and Cory Badari both had tributes to them shared on social media from family and friends.

Badari and Fairbrother were recovered from a vehicle that had ended upside down and submerged in the Similkameen River. RCMP at the time said that they believed the vehicle hit a tree before going down the embankment some time in the 24-hours before the vehicle was spotted on the morning of May 15.

A GoFundme was started for Courtney Badari, Cory’s sister, and a 50/50 fundraiser was also started by Brianna Whitney for the family. The proceeds are going towards the cost of services and funeral for Cory as well as easing financial stress while the family grieves.

Kim Wade will be making memorial stickers that will be available for a minimum donation of $5 for Badari, with 200 available through direct messaging on Facebook.

The Hedley Country Market will also have a jar for donations to support the Badari family.

Wade shared several of her memories of Badari on social media, recalling an outgoing and athletic boy who loved participating in baseball, swim club and hockey.

The GoFundMe can be found by searching for Fundraiser for Courtney and family, and entries for the 50/50 fundraiser can be done by contacting Brianna Whitney on Facebook.
