Let’s face it, cooking Christmas dinner is a lot of work.
And work, well, it’s just no fun — especially after the year we’ve had. Who wants to work when we’re supposed to be taking time to enjoy ourselves?
So, why not take a little a bit of pressure off this year and let a local restaurant handle that Christmas feast instead? A professional chef is probably going to make much better turkey than your Aunt Carol anyways.
Luckily, a handful of local restaurants are offering full-fledged Christmas feasts for you to pick-up and go.
Here’s a list of places in Penticton that will take care of Christmas dinner for you this year:
The Lakeside Resort will be doing pick-up dinners for take-out on Christmas Day. Orders must be placed by 4 p.m. on Dec. 23 and picked-up between 4 and 8 p.m. on Christmas Day.
The Lakeside’s menu features single servings of turkey dinner including white and dark meat, savoury stuffing, mashed potatoes, roasted carrots, Brussels sprouts cranberry sauce and gravy for $34.95*. There’s also a vegetarian option.
The Lakeside’s marketing director Brannigan Mosses said that she expects many orders for the Lakeside’s Christmas dinner — especially because gatherings will be smaller this year, making a full turkey impractical for many people.
“It’s really nice to take that time and just enjoy the holidays this year with your household to make those special memories instead of spending the day exhausting yourself in the kitchen,” said Mosses.
“You can just pick this up and it’s ready to go, so you can really take that time and enjoy it with your family.
“You don’t have to worry about screwing it up and you also don’t have to worry about the mess after.”
Christmas dinner at the Lakeside will be prepared by executive chef Aaron Armstrong, who has been at the Lakeside for 11 years. Orders can be placed by calling 250-493-8221.
Want to try something different than a traditional Christmas meal this year? La Case Ouzeria Italian and Greek Kitchen will be open for dine-in and take-out Christmas Eve dinners.
The Station Public House will be doing a pre-made Christmas dinner that feeds four to six people for $100.
Bogner’s of Penticton is doing a drive-thru Christmas dinner pick-up that will feed about two people for $120. Orders can be placed by calling 250 493-2711.

Feel like going on a Christmas getaway but can’t leave town due to travel restrictions? Eat, drink and be merry at the Naramata Inn.
The Restaurant at Naramata Inn is open all day on Christmas Eve and for dinner on Christmas Day. Think rich, warm flavours and locally sourced ingredients. Their three-course a-la-carte menu from Chef Ned Bell offers a selection of appetizers, entrees and decadent desserts from Leigh Holuboff — and, of course, wine pairings. Flambe Catering in Kaleden is delivering Christmas dinner to you, all you have to do is heat and serve the day of. To view their full menu visit their website.
And, finally, for everyone looking to keep it simple this year, White Spot will be offering a heat and serve turkey dinner for two that includes all the fixings plus a five-inch Pumpkin Pie for $40, or $60 with a bottle of wine. Orders must be made via phone.
*A misprinted ad in this week’s print edition of the Western News lists the turkey dinner at the Lakeside Resort for $21.95. The correct price is $34.95.
