Penticton’s Skaha Lake Park will be home to an afternoon full of family fun this Sunday, June 19, when addiction recovery centre Discovery House hosts its annual Father’s Day party from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
From road hockey to children’s pirate games and even a dunk tank, the three-hour event at the park’s ball courts will feature something to do for people of all ages.
Jerome Abraham, Discovery House’s executive director, is hoping to raise more than $10,000 in pledges as a result of his pending plunge into the dunk tank. Last year, Abraham’s raised a total of $14,200 in dunk tank pledges.
The free or by-donation event will include a community barbecue, face painting, bouncy castle, photo booth and music, among other activities.
Proceeds from the event will help Discovery House continue to subsidize long-term, live-in and abstinence-based recovery services.
Those who make a $20 or more donation will receive a tax receipt.
People interested in becoming a dunk tank participant are asked to call 250-462-1388 or visit the centre’s Facebook page for more information. Gord Portman will also be in the dunk tank again this year.
