Tim Hortons’ drive-thrus and restaurants were busier than usual in the South Okanagan last week, as coffee lovers bought cookies and rallied in support of the OSNS Child and Youth Development Centre.

More than $71,000 was raised for the Penticton-based child centre, following Smile Cookie week from April 29 to May 5.

All collected proceeds of Tim Hortons’ smile cookies, from Osoyoos to Summerland, will go back to OSNS.

“The spirit and enthusiasm shown by the Tim Hortons team inspires our community to actively engage in this feel-good campaign,” said Megan Windeler, community engagement lead at the OSNS Legacy Foundation.

“The funds raised during Smile Cookie week are playing a pivotal role in advancing the OSNS Legacy Foundation’s mission to stabilize pediatric rehabilitation in our community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the South Okanagan Tim Hortons team and our community for making a meaningful impact on so many children and families in the South Okanagan-Similkameen.”

This year’s event saw the debut of confetti-themed smile cookies, selling for $2 each.

Tim Hortons’ annual campaign raises funds for more than 600 charities across Canada. In 2023, close to $20 million was collected nationwide, according to the coffee giant.

In the South Okanagan, Windeler was joined this week by Nicole MacMillan (née Stawarz) for a cheque presentation, following the fundraiser. The Stawarz family are the owner-operators of Tim Hortons restaurants across the region.

“This annual campaign saw unprecedented participation and enthusiasm from our community, marking a milestone in our journey of giving back,” a press release from OSNS reads.
