The Cawston United Church is hosting Dragonfly Learning’s Christmas Concert on Dec. 13.
The children studying music at Dragonfly Learning will take to the stage starting at 5 p.m. to perform a mix of Christmas music and non-seasonal songs.
“The concert is amazing, the children have been working hard,” said Carole Fitsell, the music tutor for Dragonfly Learning.”There will be some special moments, I’m hoping.”
The concert features children from across the valley, including Cawston, Keremeos and a young pianist from Princeton.
“Some of the other children performing will be the StrongStart children, who will be on first,” said Fitsell.”We start at 5 [p.m.] so the little ones can go if they need to go.”
The family-focused event isn’t just music, with door prizes and refreshments available as well. Tickets for the show are $5 for adults, and donations are also welcome, with the money going to support the afterschool program to make it available for all children.
“Some of our community members cannot afford to attend, and there are members of the community, like the United Church where we’re having the concert, that want to sponsor a child,” said Fitsell. “There’s a lot of creative outlets, not just music and art, that children really need.”
The program currently has 18 children in Cawston, with another 11 at Similkameen Elementary Secondary School.
