Every time you drink a LakeBoat Lager from Cannery Brewing, you are helping to preserve Penticton’s iconic S.S. Sicamous sternwheeler.

Cannery Brewing’s LakeBoat Lager is a tribute to the S.S. Sicamous, which is prominently featured on the LakeBoat Lager cans. The popular sternwheeler is now landlocked on the shores of Okanagan Lake.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this beer goes to support the great work of the S.S. Sicamous Restoration Society. This weekend, Cannery Brewing co-owner Ian Dyck presented a cheque to the Sicamous Restoration Society’s Adolf Steffen and Jim Cooper.

The S.S. Sicamous is a unique historical landmark in Penticton. Operational from 1914 until 1935, today it is the largest of four steam-driven sterns wheeled lake vessels that have been restored in Canada.

The sternwheeler is a popular place for weddings and a major tourist attraction for visitors to tour the restored and intact interior as well as view the miniature railway displayed near the front entrance.

The Model Railway Club has installed approximately 500 feet of track, and members have invested well over 6,000 hours in the construction.

The model represents the KVR during the height of its activity in the 1930s, a period of intense activity on the Okanagan Lake and the rails of the KVR.

But since the start of the pandemic, the S.S. Sicamous has had to remain closed to the public. The Society hasn’t made a decision when it will re-open.

The Lakeboat Lager is a popular lager choice of locals and has the classic combination of pilsner malt and Saaz hops producing a crisp, clean and refreshing finish.
