Tara Bowie Community members are holding an appreciation dinner and fundraiser for the Keremeos and District Volunteer Fire Dept. to say thank you for all the hard work during this recent fire season and throughout the year.

Every time they’re needed they’re there, and now it’s the community’s chance to be there for them.

A group of community members are putting on an appreciation dinner and fundraiser for the Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department to be held Nov. 17 at Victory Hall.

“This fire season some members of the local fire department were working 12 hour shifts and then going to their day jobs trying to keep our community safe, a few even worked 24 hour shifts keeping their eyes on the Snowy Mountain fire and making sure hot spots didn’t catch,” Tara Bowie, one of the event organizers said. “We just thought a dinner, dance fundraiser would be a way for the community to come together to say thank you for being there through the fire season and all the other times they are needed.”

The working committee is made up of members from a variety of different organizations and businesses in the community.

Money raised through ticket sales and other fundraising initiatives that night will go to the fireman’s association to be used for a variety of things including bursaries for high school students, and fixing up the antique fire truck and other initiatives determined by the members of the fire department. The money will not be used for equipment as that is paid for through taxes.

The fundraiser is still in its planning stages. Anyone wanting to be a part of the committee or donate can attend the next planning meeting on Oct. 1 at the Keremeos Museum at 5 p.m. or contact the Info Centre.
