A number of Penticton small businesses are doing the happy dance over customers choosing to buy local. And the whole thing has been caught on video.

As part of its ongoing Love Local campaign, the city put together the video featuring a number of local retail businesses doing happy dances, building upon a trending social media theme that states: “When you buy from a small business, an actual person does a little happy dance.”

The cute video is intended to emphasize the impact of supporting local businesses.

The video starts with Aarav Gaba, son and social media star of Global Grocers Penticton on Main Street.

Gaba, who is 10-years-old has been creating all of Global Grocers’ adorable commercials, creating and editing them and starring him. Last year, his adorable videos caught the attention of people across Canada, getting national TV media attention and going viral on TikTok.

In this recent video, he is seen dancing through the aisles of the international food store with his mom and dad Riz and Deepak.

Other small businesses doing happy dances in the video is BumWrap, Red Bag, LocalMotive Low Waste Market, Sirius Science and Nature, Something Pretty Boutique, Soda Creek Soap Co., Eskala Mountain Sports and Meeples and Milkshakes Board Game Cafe.

“The economic development department created this video to highlight independent local businesses in Penticton as part of the COVID-19 Restart Task Force Recommendations and ongoing Love Local campaign,” said Carly Lewis, Economic Development Manager. “We wanted to have some fun with this to give a fresh perspective on the benefits of supporting local.”

The city issued a callout earlier this year to identify businesses interested in taking part.
