Keremeos’ council will look at expanding the facade grant program on Monday, March. 15.

Staff are asking council for permission to amend the grant program and expand it as part of efforts to recover economically from COVID-19.

The proposed changes would see the total grant fund expand from $4,000 to $12,000, would increase the maximum embursement from $2,000 to $3,000, expand allowable expenses to include outdoor eating areas and reduce the intake period so that projects can begin sooner.

The program, which started in 2016, currently offers a maximum of two grants of up to $2,000.

The grant application period is currently expected to open on March 16, and if the amendments are approved, would close on April 30.
