Penticton city council approved redirecting $150,000 to fund emergency repairs on Penticton Creek.
According to the staff report, two structures along the creek require emergency repairs ahead of spring melt and runoff.
The city had put in a grant request for work on the creek, including revitalization and naturalization but due to delays, the grant funding will come after the repairs are needed to be completed.
The total cost of the project is estimated at just under $3.9 million, with $718,000 funded through the city’s general fund and the rest through grants. The $150,000 will come out of the already budgeted funds for the project.

Full and permanent repairs for the structures along the creek would require $950,000, which would not be covered by grants.
The $150,000 repairs will be enough to maintain the structures until greater work can be done, ideally with grant funding.
The plan is for work on the repairs to begin as soon as possible this month to beat the spring melt.
