Mother Nature has finally helped Baldy Mountain Resort with a good dump of snow, enough to celebrate opening day.

“Baldy Mountain Resort is stoked to announce that our much-anticipated opening day will arrive this Friday, Dec. 21. First tracks of our 50th anniversary season will kick-off when the Sugarlump quad chair starts spinning for guests at 9 a.m. Friday morning,” said Baldy organizers in a news release.

The season kicks off on the Sugarlump quad chair and the Magic Carpet. Six trails, three groomed to cruise on and and three ungroomed for powdery fun. Conditions will be assessed throughout the weekend and organizers expect to open additional runs as soon as more snow comes. In the past seven days, Baldy has seen 31 centimetres of snow — 21 cm of that has come in the last 48 hours. The base at the top is 72 cm.

The resort will be operating under standard operating hours now through the end of the season. Baldy’s classic day lodge will be open with full service in the cafeteria, and the Baldy Bar. Starting Friday, the resort will be open seven days a week through Jan. 7 when they return to a Thursday to Monday operating schedule.
