The Oliver Volunteer Fire Department was kept busy Thursday evening, seeing three calls in half an hour’s time, two of which involved fires.

Department spokesperson Rob Graham said firefighters responded to a structure fire at around 5:30 p.m., finding a shed on fire that was attached to another structure.

“Crews on scene were able to make quick work in getting that fire contained and out,” Graham said.

That fire did not spread to the larger structure, though Graham said he wasn’t sure if there was any smoke damage to the structure.

Within 20 minutes of that call, another call came in for a grass fire, unrelated to the first fire.

That fire reached about 200 metres by 200 metres in size, with wind pushing the fire fairly quickly, Graham said.

Crews faced some challenges getting water lines on the blaze, which Graham said was producing a fair bit of smoke and open flame, due to the dryness of the tall grassy area.

Within that time, Graham said crews also responded to a call at a household, where some food had been burned on a stove and set off an alarm.
