The South Okanagan General Hospital emergency department will be closing overnight on Friday, due to “limited physician availability,” according to Interior Health.

The health authority says the department will be closing at 6 p.m., reopening the next morning at 8 a.m..

“Interior Health regrets this interruption to our normal emergency department services,” a news release from IH says.

People requiring care should call 911 in the event of an emergency, and visit the Penticton Regional Hospital if required.

“Interior Health has been working closely with our physician group to secure coverage for these days, but so far have been unsuccessful.”

This is the second time this month the hospital’s emergency was set to close, with a planned closure on June 4 and overnight on June 5.

But Interior Health announced at the last minute that the emergency would, in fact, remain open.
