Update:

The daughter of the man who was stabbed on Monday morning in a Penticton alley said he is recovering at the hospital.

Ashley Niedzielski said her father was dropping off supplies for a renovation being completed at a house on Secrest Place and had left his truck unlocked.

“When he came back out to his truck there was someone rooting through it. He told them to get lost, noticed they had his stuff, tackled him to the ground and the guy stabbed him in the stomach,” said Niedzielski, who afterward said she wasn’t exactly sure where the stab wound occurred on his torso.

She said the man then got into a car and drove away. RCMP are now searching for an older model light coloured Chrysler LeBaron with a dark coloured soft top.

“All of our available resources responded to this incident and the vehicle was located on Highway 97 where it turned off into Summerland,” said Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth, “The suspect vehicle veered into oncoming lanes and drove at a high rate of speed through residential areas. Fortunately, there were no further injuries, but we have not been able to locate the vehicle or the occupants.”

The suspect was described as a male wearing a white mask and black hoody.

Niedzielski said her father had an ultrasound and his organs appeared to be OK and he was also breathing normal.

“It is pretty scary and pretty unbelievable. It’s kind of crazy to happen in Penticton but I guess this is where we live now,” she said.

“My dad was here for two seconds and the truck was unlocked, they will take what they can get.”

A stabbing allegedly took place in a Penticton alleyway on Monday morning.

A person at the scene told the Penticton Western News that she heard someone yelling around 9:30 a.m. in the alleyway near Secrest Place. When she went out to see what was happening, a man pulled up his shirt and said he was bleeding.

The man told the neighbour he saw someone trying to steal from his truck when he approached. He was taken to hospital by ambulance and three RCMP vehicles are currently on the scene. RCMP have not confirmed the circumstances of this incident.

More on this to come.
