Firefighters called to grass fire in Summerland

Blaze began as permitted open burning in Garnett Valley area

Firefighters in Summerland were called to a grass fire on Monday afternoon.

The fire, in the Garnett Valley area, was reported around 12:30 p.m. While the property owner had a permit for open burning, the fire was out of control.

Firefighters were able to control and extinguish the grass fire.
