COVID-19 cases stay steady in South Okanagan Similkameen

The weekly number of new cases in the South Okanagan Similkameen are staying steady.

Overall there were 31 cases from Nov. 7 to 13, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control, up slightly from the 29 the week before.

Cases in Penticton dropped from 18 to 15 between the two weeks, while cases in the Southern Okanagan and Keremeos local health areas doubled to four and two respectively.

Cases in Princeton dropped from six over the first week of November down to three over the most recent week.

The Summerland local health area saw an uptick in cases to seven over Nov. 7 to 13, up from the three the week before.

Summerland has recently experienced several school exposures according to Interior Health, where a member of the staff or student community has tested positive for COVID-19.

Vaccination rates in the area stayed steady from the first week of November, with the only increase coming from Keremeos where they have caught up to Princeton at 78 per cent double-dosed.

South Okanagan has maintained its lead with 85 per cent of people double-dosed, followed by Penticton and Summerland with 84 per cent.

Third doses have begun being distributed and tracked by the BC CDC as well. With third doses, Penticton leads the way with nine per cent of people aged 12 and above with all three shots.

Summerland follows behind with eight per cent, the Southern Okanagan with seven per cent, Keremeos with six per cent and finally Princeton with five per cent of all those aged 12 and above with three shots.
