Allen was well regarded among his students, many of whom carried his memory with them long after they had graduated.

The petition to rename the gymnasium in Allen’s honour was started in 2019, and is still active on Change.org. garnering over 1,100 signatures so far.

The petition reads: “For 32 years he dedicated his life to truly making a difference in the lives of students. There isn’t a student who went to Pen-Hi in those 32 years who does not have a “Coach Allen” story. He touched so many lives.”

The post to Facebook has already gathered close to 200 comments of condolences from former students sharing memories of ‘Coach.’
