As part of its ongoing support for children and youth with complex care and disability issues, the Dragonfly Pond Family (DFP) Society is offering a special summer program again this year.

Currently underway but with spaces still available, Dragonflies and Minnows offers member families a variety of activities including days at the community centre filled with art and physical play, other community-based events and two weeks of Art in the Park.

“The programs are offered to the whole family and provide the opportunity for parents to connect and network with other parents and siblings to have the chance to meet others with similar experiences,” said society co-ordinator Traci Fladager. “The programs offer a safe and welcoming environment for families to spend time learning and playing. These programs are provided free of charge to members with the amazing support of both the United Way Central and South Okanagan and the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan.”

The DFP is a collaboration of parents, professionals and community partners to provide services for families with children 0-18 years of age living in the South Okanagan Similkameen.

Started in 2000, one of the main goals of the society is to help member families avoid “burn out” through a variety of means such as the Evening Out program.

The society also helps reduce the need for more costly care and services through preventative measures.

The first week of Art in the Park is July 24 to 28 and the second is Aug. 21 to 25. Both are in the grassy area across from Lakawanna Park.

As well, a special rock climbing day is scheduled at Skaha Bluffs on Aug. 17 with Hoodoo Adventures.

The summer schedule will wrap up on Aug. 30 with a special fun day at LocoLanding Adventure Park followed by a pizza lunch.
